Wand Making

Wands can be considered the most personal of all magical tools. They are usually made of wood, although other materials such as copper, crystals or combinations of all these are also used. The wand is usually assigned to the element of Air or sometimes Fire, and is typically used by many pagans when casting a circle or to direct energy that has been raised in ritual.

While bush walking at the SOL Beltane weekend held in Oct 2007 I searched for a suitable stick to turn into a wand, found a couple and finally decided on one that had some holes in it. I then used a knife to whittle one end to a smooth point, and to smooth off jagged areas around the holes, and finished rubbing it back with sandpaper until the wood had a smooth, clean finish. I then coated it with a dark stained lacquer and allowed it to dry. Then I selected some crystals and glued them into the holes (hot glue guns are wonderful inventions!)
